About Us
1977
The Learning Post opened its doors in 1977 on 22nd street in West Des Moines. Owners Darlene and Bernard Miller, a principal and a teacher respectively, opened the store because educational materials were hard to find. Over time more products were developed and they outgrew the 2,200 square foot store and moved into the 9,400 square foot store where The Learning Post can still be found today, at 2761 100th Street in Urbandale. Along the way the Millers and their son Monti tried stores in Johnston and Ankeny, but by 2010 the Urbandale store is the only store that remained.
2015
The store was sold to Kym Howe in early 2015. With a MBA obtained in 2010 from University of Iowa and her retail and extensive technology experience as the former Senior VP of IT at Kum & Go for 17 years, new owner Kym Howe hopes to carry on the stellar reputation the store has earned since 1977. The Learning Post will continue to be locally owned and will always be a source for educational supplies and educational, hard to find, unique toys, gifts, puzzles, games and MORE! Kym has 3 children, Jacob, Jessie and Jenna.
